Meeting 19th November 2013 5:30pm

We had another great meeting for The Hive Community Garden with another good roll-up.  Clayton had some positive feedback with Richmond Valley Council and we are all eager to hear approval from Council of the concept plans.  Not much longer, maybe end of November, we will get the go-ahead.
Catherine O'Halloran, Community Development Worker at Mid Richmond Neighbourhood Centre visited and signed us up as volunteers of the MRNC.  Great job Catherine explaining the necessity of community garden members becoming members of the MRNC.
The photos are from our naming day - a glorious, happy, fun-filled day:

A native bee visited the writer at home on the morning of the naming day. Synchronicity when our community garden was officially named 'The Hive'

An excerpt from Animal Spirit Guides by Steven D Farmer PhD:

'If BEE shows up, it means:
It's time to get organized and get to work on that idea that you want to implement and develop.
Approach your projects with commitment, diligence and dedication and you'll succeed beyond your wildest expectations.
Involve several others in a co-operative and life-affirming venture, one in which everyone who participates will benefit - and if possible, one that includes the entire community.
Take the time to appreciate and enjoy the sweetness of life.
This is a very fertile time for you physically and creatively, one where you can bring your ideas into fruition.
This is a very productive cycle for you, so stay with whatever you're working on and there will be a favourable outcome.'

Garden Naming Day

On Sunday last, 27 October, 2013 the Mid Richmond Community Garden was officially named 'The Hive'.   All present enjoyed the sunshine, great food and camaraderie and were excited at the selection of the community garden's name.  A 'hive' is as most know, an artificial home for bees or a scene of busy activity.  It is a lovely, suitable name for what will definitely become 'a scene of busy activity' in the not too distant future. We enjoyed a delightful array of food, with delicious local egg and salad rolls and fresh home-made lemonade served by Clayton our happy Garden Co-Ordinator.  Thank you Clayton and all who came along and bought a plate to share on the day.  We also enjoyed contributing our creativity to a canvas - a great idea of Willow's, which will be a great reminder of our 'naming day'.  Our tie-dyed flags, which were lovingly made at the local Saturday market, were hung with much joy between the two pine trees at the front of the garden in Mangrove Street, Evans Head.  They look like prayer flags strung between the trees and we hope they bring many blessings to the community garden.

The Hive - A Mid Richmond Community Garden - The Journey so far....

The first Mid Richmond community garden meeting was held on Sunday August 18th, 2013. Twenty two community members attended.

The first community garden design meeting was held on Tuesday 27th August, 2013.

The Community garden design team have been meeting weekly since late August and 9 meetings have been held.

From these design meetings, the community garden design group have developed a shared vision for the site, undertaken a site assessment/analysis, worked with site restrictions and together have designed the landscape concept plan for the Mid Richmond community gardens.

In addition to these meetings, one field trip has been held to the Mullumbimby living earth festival and three community garden information stalls have been held at local markets.

Even at this projects initial stage, this community garden has already provided a meeting place, bringing together diverse aspects of the Mid Richmond community.

We are already cultivating the community…..and not a seed has been sown.

Submission for development - including the landscape concept plan, was handed in to Richmond Valley Council on Monday 28 October, 2013.  Now we await.
